Following the Trump-Xi meeting, Taiwan's Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi emphasized that the United States maintains a consistent policy toward Taiwan that will not shift based on isolated statements by leaders.1 Chen stated that US policy toward Taiwan is built on the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances, which the American side has reiterated multiple times.1
Regarding military aid to Taiwan, Chen noted that the matter remains in an assessment phase led by the US, which represents normal procedural steps.1 Taiwan hopes that military sales can be implemented as soon as possible, and Chen indicated that Taiwan has both the willingness and capability to increase defense spending.1 Chen also characterized Taiwan as an important piece in the US position at a decisive point for strategic competition.1
In parallel remarks, Shen You-zhong, deputy minister of Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, noted that US policy toward Taiwan continues to be in a comparatively stable phase.1
