An NHS trust has apologised following the unauthorised access of medical records belonging to Noah Woods, a three-year-old boy who died in Suffolk.1 The child went missing from Branthwaite play area on September 15, 2024, and was found drowned in Decoy Pond the following day, prompting a search involving more than 1,300 members of the public.1
Ten NHS employees have been suspended or removed from active duties pending investigation into their unauthorised access of Noah's medical records.1 The incident has been reported to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).1 Dr Martin Mansfield, deputy chief medical officer of the NHS trust, stated: "We sincerely apologise for the additional distress caused to Noah Woods' family."1
Sir Jim Mackey, chief executive of NHS England, responded to the breach by declaring: "We have seen too many cases of people abusing trust—this has to stop."1 He announced that the organisation will immediately suspend any employees found to have unauthorised access to patient records.1 This data breach follows previous incidents in which NHS staff accessed records inappropriately following the 2023 Nottingham attack and the 2024 Southport dance class stabbing.1
