The Shenzhou-23 astronauts—Zhu Yangzhu, Zhang Zhiyuan, and Li Jiaying—have accomplished several key objectives during their mission exceeding four months in orbit.1 The crew recovered an external material exposure experimental apparatus and conducted numerous in-cabin space science experiments.1
The material exposure device was launched into orbit aboard the Tianzhou-5 cargo spacecraft in November 2022 and has since facilitated three rounds of exposure experiments totaling 16 projects.1 The fourth round of experiments now underway encompasses eight scientific research projects and 26 sample units, including trials such as "hollow-core photonic bandgap fiber gyroscope," "advanced process devices," and "remote sensing target detection based on domestically developed AI chips."1 Beyond payload operations, the crew has also conducted research in tactile perception, emergency decision-making, and medical examinations.1
