The replica on display at Reading Museum was created by members of the Leek Embroidery Society, completed before Whitsunday in 1886.1 The project was initiated after Elizabeth Wardell traveled to Normandy in 1885 to view the original tapestry,1 and was executed by 35 society members.1 In 1895, a Reading alderman purchased the 70-meter reproduction for £300 and donated it to the town, where it has been preserved for 130 years.1 The replica is displayed on the first floor mezzanine level of the Reading Museum.1
