Kim carded a bogey-free round and birdied four consecutive holes down the stretch, completing the historic score with an 18-foot putt on the 18th hole 1.
After two rounds, Kim holds a commanding 14-under-par lead at 14 strokes below par, sitting three shots ahead of second-place players Ben Kohles, Chandler Phillips, and Emiliano Grillo 1. His first-round score was 69 1.
The 59 was Kim's career-low score, surpassing his previous best of 62 1. During the round, he made eight birdies from putts longer than 10 feet, including a crucial 24-foot uphill putt on his final hole to clinch the 59 1. "This is a moment to be in the record books, so let's go for it," Kim said of his approach 1.
The score marks the fourth 59 in PGA Tour play since the start of 2024, following Jake Knapp's recent 59 in the first round of the Cognizant Classic 1. Jim Furyk holds the all-time PGA Tour record with a 58, shot at the 2016 Travelers Championship 1.
Scottie Scheffler, the tournament's top competitor, shot a second-round 70 and trails Kim by seven strokes 1.
