The escalation in financial support reflects an alarming surge in anti-Muslim hate incidents across the country. Over the past year, the UK has experienced one mosque attack every five days on average 1. Akila Ahmed, chief executive of the British Muslim Trust, characterized the security needs as "a direct response to the increased attacks on mosques" 1. Despite the unprecedented funding allocation, implementation remains uneven; Shaista Gohir, chief executive of the British Muslim Women's Network, noted that the application process is cumbersome and many community sites remain awaiting approval decisions 1.

The disorder was triggered by the Southport knife attack in 2024, in which three girls attending a dance class were killed 1. The violence has continued to impact communities nationwide. The Jami community center in Birmingham alone reported at least five hate crime incidents between March and July 1.
