The redesigned interface leverages Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, adhering to Material Design standards for a modern user experience 1. Key enhancements include automatic update checking, improved search capabilities with support for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages, and an expanded app categorization system that divides games into seventeen subcategories 1. The update also introduces robust filtering options to help users discover applications more effectively 1. However, the pull-to-refresh gesture for checking updates has been removed, Tor support has been streamlined into a general proxy setting, and the app-hiding feature has been simplified; the app-erasing function has not yet been restored 1.
Development of the Nearby feature, which enables direct application sharing between devices, is still underway and was not included in the initial 2.0 release 1. Funding for this major update came from multiple sources: NLnet's Mobifree fund, the Open Technology Fund's User Experience and Discovery Lab, the FOSS Sustainability Fund, NGI, and the Calyx Institute 1. Security audits were conducted jointly by the Open Technology Fund's Security Lab and Convocation 1.
