EU spokesperson Olof Gill stated that the bloc's position on the matter would persist irrespective of who attends the G20 conference.1 U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington has extended an invitation to Putin to join the summit.1 Putin's last visit to the United States occurred on August 15, 2025, when he met with President Trump in Anchorage, Alaska.1
Meanwhile, Russia launched a fresh wave of strikes against Ukraine that claimed at least eight lives.1 In the Kharkiv region, at least six agricultural workers were killed and twelve others wounded in the attacks.1 The capital, Kyiv, reported at least two deaths from the strikes.1
