The UK High Court has upheld restrictions preventing former SAS soldier Christian Craighead from publishing his memoir about counter-terrorism operations.1 The court determined that the Ministry of Defence had compelling reasons to maintain the injunction against the book's release in Britain.1 Craighead, who enlisted in 1992 and served in special forces from 2006 to 2020, is bound by a lifetime confidentiality agreement signed upon joining the military, which prohibits him from disclosing classified information without written authorization.1
Craighead received the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his actions during a 2019 attack by al-Shabaab in Nairobi, Kenya, in which he helped evacuate over 700 people from a hotel.1 The attack killed 21 people.1 Although Craighead's book has already been published in the United States, the injunction remains in effect in the UK, and the publishing ban will continue until the government concludes its legal case against him.1 Craighead previously lost a similar legal challenge to the restrictions in 2023.1
