A Hawk T2 training aircraft operated by the Royal Air Force crashed and exploded in Anglesey, Wales on Wednesday moments after both pilots ejected successfully.1 The aircraft, which had taken off from RAF Valley moments before the incident, came down near Pencarnisiog, less than two miles from the base.1
The two pilots sustained only minor injuries after parachuting to safety.1 Witnesses reported that the aircraft exhibited severe instability during flight, including an extremely steep climb angle and violent oscillations in the air.1 Local resident Peter Bennett described seeing orange flames as the jet took off, followed by two loud explosions before the pilots ejected.1 The wreckage came to rest approximately one mile inland from the runway.1
An RAF spokesman stated: "An incident involving an RAF T2 Hawk aircraft that departed from RAF Valley has occurred near Anglesey. An investigation is underway and we will not be making further comment at this time."1 Defence Secretary Wes Streeting added: "My thoughts are first with the pilots. We will provide further updates in due course."1
