A comprehensive global survey commissioned by Gallup found that widespread anxiety about artificial intelligence persists even among those who use it regularly.1 In the United States, 68% of people who use AI daily reported feeling worried about the technology, while 74% of Americans overall expressed anxiety about its implications.1 Only 36% of Americans expect AI to primarily benefit the nation, according to the survey.1
The polling effort, conducted between April and July, covered approximately 1,000 respondents each across 37 countries and is set to expand to 140 nations.1 Trust in AI's accuracy remains limited globally, with just 45% of daily users in the United States expressing confidence in AI results, while the worldwide median stands at only 36% of respondents reporting high trust in AI-generated information.1 In Canada, 29% of surveyed individuals reported using AI daily, with over half of that group expressing concern and 64% overall stating the technology worries them.1
Attitudes toward AI vary significantly by region. Singapore recorded the highest daily AI usage rate at 46%, and over 80% of those familiar with AI there expect it to improve their daily lives, with 77% anticipating national benefits.1 China reported 35% daily AI usage, with most respondents expecting the technology to help their country, and the nation showed the highest positive sentiment toward AI at 90%.1 Across 34 countries surveyed, people predominantly expressed curiosity about AI, with approximately 32% reporting worry about the technology.1
According to Pablo Diego-Rosell, a senior scientist at Gallup, the research reveals a complex relationship with AI: "The clearest finding is that attitudes toward AI are multidimensional. People can be curious about AI, expect it to be beneficial and use it frequently, while still being worried about it. Similarly, they can see tremendous potential in AI while being skeptical about the accuracy of the information it provides."1
