云南农业大学农学与生物技术学院院长刘雅婷指出，气候差异并非不可逾越 1。她认为，如果某一农作物的产业价值足够大，云南还能种成中国第一 1。这表明，真正的制约因素不在气候条件，而在于产业价值判断。

The province's elevation spans from 6,740 meters to 76.4 meters, creating seven distinct temperature zones and 16 different climate types.1 Through a combination of natural advantages, technological innovation, and policy support, Yunnan has successfully localized numerous imported crops into hundred-billion-yuan industries.
Coffee represents one of Yunnan's most significant agricultural achievements. As of 2025, the province's coffee cultivation covers 151.88 million mu with a yield of 17.07 million tons, accounting for over 98 percent of China's total production and generating a total industrial chain value of 995 billion yuan.1 Similarly, for every three macadamia nuts sold globally, one originates from Yunnan's Lincang region.1 The province has also made substantial progress in avocado production, with Menglian now replacing 15 percent of China's imported avocados.1 In Xishuangbanna, individual durian trees have achieved yields of up to 34 fruits per plant, with an average weight of 3.7 kilograms per fruit.1 Additionally, Yunnan's olive cultivation covers approximately 200,000 mu, concentrated primarily in the hot and dry valleys of the Jinsha and Lancang rivers.1
According to Liu Yating, dean of the College of Agronomy and Biotechnology at Yunnan Agricultural University, the limiting factor for crop cultivation lies not in climate constraints but in industrial value assessment.1 "Climate differences are not insurmountable," Liu stated, and "if a particular crop possesses sufficient industrial value, Yunnan can become China's leading producer."1
