South Korean President Lee Jae-myung stated at the 81st United Nations General Assembly that Seoul will work to restart long-suspended dialogue between the United States and North Korea in the near term, aiming to develop it into talks centered on ending the state of war on the Korean Peninsula and transitioning to a peace mechanism.1
On the same day, Lee held talks with U.S. President Trump in New York lasting approximately 30 minutes.1 Both sides confirmed they would maintain close communication on Korean Peninsula peace and stability, and Trump reiterated his willingness to engage in dialogue with North Korea.1 The two leaders also agreed to deepen cooperation in areas including nuclear submarine fuel, uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing, shipbuilding, and the transfer of wartime operational command authority, based on a "joint facts list" released by South Korea and the United States in November 2025.1
