As China's 38th National Tooth Day approaches, Shenzhen held a themed promotional activity on September 19 to raise public awareness about dental care.1 The campaign, organized by the Shenzhen Health Education and Promotion Center and Shenzhen Stomatological Hospital, focused on the slogan "Healthy Mouth, Healthy Life" with the secondary theme "Young people build strong teeth foundations; elderly enjoy healthy dentition."1
Dental experts at the event offered targeted advice for different age groups. Children should avoid prolonged consumption of overly soft foods, as this is associated with dental crowding and narrow dental arches, and should instead increase their intake of coarse fiber foods.1 Adults are advised to brush their teeth effectively twice daily for at least two minutes each using the Bass brushing technique.1 For elderly residents, periodontal disease remains the leading cause of tooth loss among adults, making timely restoration of missing teeth and regular annual oral examinations and professional cleanings essential.1
Beyond individual dental practices, Shenzhen has introduced broader health management initiatives to encourage residents to prioritize wellness. The city's resident health literacy level reached 52.13 percent in 2025.1 In July, the municipality launched a Resident Health Incentive Program, allowing citizens to earn points and receive benefits through activities such as exercise and health screenings.1
