The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has issued a notice following inspection identifying personal information collection and use violations across 30 applications.1 The violations fall into four categories: six apps failed to publicly disclose personal information collection and use rules, four apps forcibly or repeatedly requested unnecessary permissions, nine apps did not comprehensively and accurately list the personal information they collect and use, and eleven apps failed to provide effective account cancellation functions.1
The operators of the affected applications have been given fifteen working days to complete remediation efforts and submit their corrective measures to the CAC for verification.1 The notice cites enforcement under the Cybersecurity Law, Personal Information Protection Law, Network Data Security Management Regulations, and the Methods for Determining Unlawful and Irregular Collection and Use of Personal Information by Apps as the legal basis for this action.1
