The 29th Beijing-Taiwan Science and Technology Forum convened in Beijing's Yizhuang district on September 19, with Taiwan business representatives weighing in on critical issues facing the technology sector.1
Li Zheng-hong, chairman of the National Taiwan Enterprises Association, stressed the importance of establishing clear parameters in US-China AI safety discussions. He cautioned that "restrictions justified solely on security grounds may impede future AI development," and argued that both sides should "sit down to properly discuss the direction AI should take, the boundaries of safety regulation, and areas where collaboration is possible."1
Taiwan and mainland China possess complementary technological strengths that could deepen bilateral cooperation. While Taiwan has maintained leadership in semiconductors and critical components, mainland China has achieved significant research progress in artificial intelligence and other advanced fields.1 Taiwan is actively expanding into AI, unmanned aircraft, and robotics sectors, though business leaders have noted that the island's industrial development over the past decade has concentrated heavily on semiconductor-related industries, raising concerns about over-reliance on a single sector.1
