Audi AG has initiated legal proceedings against German importer Auto China to prevent the importation and sale of two China-exclusive vehicle models—the AUDI E5 Sportback and E7X—into Germany 1. These vehicles were jointly developed by Audi and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation specifically for the Chinese market and feature the AUDI brand name without Audi's iconic four-ring logo 1.
The importer had obtained type approval certification and begun selling the vehicles to consumers through unauthorized channels 1. However, Audi contends that outside China, these vehicles are classified as "non-Audi" models and cannot be serviced through official Audi support networks 1. According to Audi AG, these vehicle models are not intended for export beyond China through official distribution channels 1. The affected models have since been removed from Auto China's website 1.
