Longhua District in Shenzhen has initiated a "Welcoming APEC·Painting New Longhua" creative mural initiative to build momentum for China's hosting of the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2026, with Shenzhen serving as the host city 1. The campaign encompasses 24 mural locations covering over 3,000 square meters across the district, including areas around Shenzhen North Railway Station and along Longhua Avenue and Meiguan Road 1.
Launched on August 17, 2024, the project has already mobilized diverse participants including international visitors, volunteers, corporate employees, and community members 1. As of the latest update, 20 mural works are under construction with 12 completed 1. On September 17, artists from South Africa, the United States, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Russia, Serbia, and Romania—10 international participants in total—joined in the creative process 1. Among the completed works is a 3D ground mural titled "Glimpsing the Future·Smart Longhua," which spans approximately 50 square meters 1.
The initiative has attracted significant institutional support, with major state-owned enterprises including China Construction Third Bureau and China Twenty-Two Metallurgical Group actively participating in the construction work 1. Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank has also provided financial backing for the project 1. Through these collaborative efforts, the district aims to showcase Longhua's openness and inclusive urban character to the international community.
