A UN-backed independent investigation team has released findings concluding there are reasonable grounds to believe the United States committed war crimes during missile strikes on Iran on February 28.3 The report identifies two major incidents: an attack on Minab Primary School that killed at least 156 people, including 120 children, and a strike on the Ramerd Sports Complex that resulted in at least 21 deaths, including 7 children.3 UN investigators determined that the US military conducted two separate strikes on Minab Primary School, which was designated as a "planned strike point."3 The United States is the only party to the conflict possessing cruise missiles and PrSM precision-strike missiles.3
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that America "never targets civilian objectives,"3 while the US military disputed the weapons identification and claimed it did not conduct any strikes on the Ramerd Sports Complex.3
The UN report also found grounds to accuse Iranian authorities of crimes against humanity in their suppression of anti-government protests between December 2025 and January 2026.3 According to Hrana, a Norway-based human rights organization, more than 7,000 people were killed during the crackdown, though official Iranian figures cite 3,000 deaths.3 Security forces fired from rooftops and elevated positions using metal pellets that caused permanent blindness, and at least 29 men were executed following expedited trials on riot-related charges.3
