Josh Bowman-Matthews, a long-term maintainer of the Servo project, has completed a year of part-time funded development supported by donations through OpenCollective and GitHub, during which he concentrated on enhancing the contributor experience.1 Over this period, he nominated eight new maintainers and reviewed 1,150 pull requests.1 Additionally, he created 114 issues specifically designed for new contributors, with 92 percent of these issues resolved.1
Beyond contributor onboarding, Bowman-Matthews produced comprehensive documentation covering borrow hazards, experimental features, AI policy, and guidance on identifying tasks within the project, as well as fixing stable and intermittent test failures.1 He also supported a major rewrite of the JavaScript engine integration to address intermittent crashes related to garbage collection.1 In parallel, another contributor's Servo funding proposal was approved with his backing.1
