On December 19, 2016, Anis Amri, a Tunisian whose asylum application had been rejected, drove a hijacked truck into the Breitscheidplatz Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people, including Polish driver Lukasz Urban who was shot by Amri.1 A thirteenth victim died from injuries in 2021.1 Amri escaped the scene and was shot and killed by Italian police during a routine identity check near Milan four days later.1
