We hope these measures will make people reconsider what winter climbing Mount Fuji is like."1 The adjacent Shizuoka Prefecture authorities are taking complementary action by imposing penalties on unregistered off-season climbs and strengthening restrictions in designated areas.1 Rescue fees are expected to follow standards similar to those used in neighboring mountain regions, where charges reach approximately 8,000 yen (51 US dollars; 38 British pounds) per five minutes of helicopter operation.1
