Among those caught in the attack was the author, who sustained fractures, concussion, internal injuries, and spinal damage 1.
The immediate physical trauma was only the beginning of a decades-long battle with its psychological aftermath. The author was not formally diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder until approximately thirty years after the incident, around 2013 1. Even 43 years after the massacre, the survivor continues to undergo psychological therapy and pain management 1. Rather than retreating into isolation, the author has channeled the experience into advocacy work, now providing psychological support to victims' families through the Queensland Victim Support Group 1.
