Rune Kvist, an early employee at Anthropic, and Rajiv Dattani, former COO of METR, have co-founded Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company (AIUC), a startup focused on auditing and certifying the safety of enterprise AI agents.1 The company announced the completion of a $40 million Series A funding round led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from First Harmonic, bringing total funding to $55 million when combined with a previous $15 million seed round.1 The seed round included backing from Nat Friedman's NFDG fund, Emergence, Terrain, and Anthropic co-founder Ben Mann.1
AIUC has developed the AIUC-1 standard, based on cybersecurity frameworks like SOC 2, to validate the safety and reliability of AI agents through approximately 5,000 tests.1 According to Kvist, "Banks, hospitals, governments and militaries no longer decline to deploy AI because a model isn't smart enough. They decline because they've made commitments to their own customers about what a system will and won't do, and nobody can currently guarantee that."1 The company has assembled an alliance of approximately 250 safety and risk leaders to contribute to standard-setting efforts.1 Audit reports generated by AIUC span around 100 pages, detailing where agents operate safely and reliably as well as areas of potential risk.1 Current clients include Cursor, Lovable, Harvey, and ElevenLabs.1
