In October 1950, when the Chinese People's Liberation Army's 18th Corps crossed the Jinsha River to liberate Tibet, Gangtuo Village in Jangda County, Chamdo, became the first settlement they entered, earning it the distinction of "Tibet's Liberation First Village."1 The village witnessed the raising of China's first five-star red flag in the region, marking a pivotal moment in Tibet's modern history.1
Over the following decades, Gangtuo Village has undergone profound development. The completion of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway in 1954 was followed by the construction of the first suspension bridge across the Jinsha River in 1956.1 Infrastructure continued to improve with the completion of the Gangtuo Bridge on National Highway 317 in 1974 and the new Gangtuo Jinsha River Bridge in 2008.1 These projects have fundamentally transformed the village's connectivity and living conditions.
Today, Gangtuo Village has leveraged its revolutionary heritage to drive rural revitalization through cultural tourism and red education initiatives. Since 2023, the village has organized over 100 red education activities for visitors and students.1 In September 2024, the village committee was recognized as a "National Ethnic Unity and Progress Model Collective."1 Young residents like Yangzin Zhuoga, born in 2003, have returned to the village after graduating from university to serve as red heritage interpreters, ensuring that the village's historical significance continues to inspire new generations.1
