Academician Lin Jian from Shenzhen has been elected co-chair of the International Marine Literacy Education Working Group at the UN Decade of Ocean 2026 Qingdao International Marine Literacy Conference.1 The working group was established under the China Ocean Association's Marine Literacy Professional Committee.1
Multiple UN Decade of Ocean initiatives are advancing through collaboration between the Southern University of Science and Technology's Institute of Advanced Ocean Research and Shenzhen Ocean University (in establishment).1 These include the "Enhancing Citizen Marine Literacy" partnership project, which is driving the establishment of the Global Alliance for Marine Literacy in Primary and Secondary Schools,1 as well as the deep-sea artificial intelligence empowerment project.1 The "Deep-sea Environment and Engineering Simulation and Prediction" (SPEED) project represents Shenzhen's first officially endorsed UN Decade of Ocean action focused on AI-enabled deep-sea research.1
The "Deep Blue Dream 2035" global marine scientific expedition plan launched its Western Pacific voyage from Shenzhen in March 2026.1 Looking ahead, 2026 marks a critical year for Shenzhen Ocean University to transition from provisional to formal establishment status,1 an objective explicitly outlined in Shenzhen's 15th Five-Year Plan.1
