A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya, a Japanese startup founded by former Spotify innovation chief Máuhan M Zonoozy, has secured $5.5 million in pre-seed funding to develop music interaction applications that deliberately avoid AI-generated content.1 The funding round included investors such as Mantis VC, SV Angel, Boxgroup, Quiet Capital, ERA, Common Metal, Gold House, Liquid 2 Ventures, Breakers VC, and Systemic Ventures, with guidance from Dawn Ostroff, the former Spotify Chief Content and Advertising Officer.1
Zonoozy departed Spotify in 2024 to launch the venture and brings prior entrepreneurial experience from founding Bubbl, a video editing and mixing startup that was later acquired by Cricket Media.1 The company has released multiple applications including Speed Surfer, Usersound, Stacks, Drops, and Sampler, alongside an iOS app called bop that enables users to engage creatively with musical elements.1 The company plans to launch a "musical sandbox mixer" product this year.1
Reflecting the company's philosophy, Zonoozy stated: "We don't believe the future of music is just AI-generated. If AI makes content richer, it actually makes taste, human perspective, and interaction more important."1
