The toll of the ongoing conflict has been severe on the state's economy and population.1 More than 5,000 businesses have shuttered operations in Sinaloa due to the insecurity.1 The violence erupted following the arrest of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada in the United States two years prior.1 Among the victims has been a one-year-old boy, who was killed after being struck in the head by a bullet during a gunfight.1 A diocesan bishop presided over a mass held in Culiacán calling on the warring factions to cease their violence.1
