Wu Guoguang, a researcher at Stanford University, has stated that Xi Jinping's reelection to a fourth term at next year's Communist Party Congress is virtually certain, and major shifts should not be anticipated.1 According to Wu, while Xi's personnel decisions have deviated from past conventions and generated widespread discontent among the political elite, such friction will not alter the distribution of power at the top of the party hierarchy.1
On China's economic trajectory, Wu noted that the country faces a slowdown and that Xi has promoted new development models centered on high-quality growth, environmental sustainability, and technological self-reliance.1 Despite achievements in electric vehicles, robotics, and unmanned aircraft, Wu assessed that these efforts remain far from establishing a comprehensive new economic model.1 He emphasized that one should "not expect the Party Congress to bring about a dramatic transformation."1
