Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has responded forcefully to independent senator Pauline Hanson after she criticized his mother's long-term residence in public housing during a podcast episode.1 Hanson's remarks, recorded in February but reported over the weekend by The Australian, suggested that public housing should not be occupied by residents for decades, singling out Albanese's mother as an example.1 In her podcast comments, Hanson stated: "Housing commission houses should not be there for people to live in them for 30, 40 [years], and he said his mother lived in the same one she was born in for 65 years."1
Albanese defended his mother's character and rejected Hanson's attack, declaring: "My mother was way out of Pauline Hanson's league. Way out of it."1 The Prime Minister characterized Hanson's comments as malicious in nature.1 Albanese's mother, Maryanne Albanese, passed away in 2002 at the age of 65.1 This marks the second occasion within days that Hanson has faced controversy over personal attacks.1
