Wu has been expelled from the Communist Party and removed from all government positions, with his case transferred to prosecutors for investigation on suspected criminal charges.1 The commission specifically noted that Wu represents the first senior official to be disciplined for failing to implement the Party's central directives on preventing and resolving local government debt risks.1 As context for this action, China's total government debt reached 102.5 trillion yuan by the end of 2025, representing a debt-to-GDP ratio of 73.2 percent, while outstanding local government hidden debt stood at 6.5 trillion yuan.1
