Lei Siwei, former standing committee member of the Gansu Province Party Committee and former vice governor of the Gansu Province government, has been subjected to disciplinary and administrative expulsion following an investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.1 The investigation found that Lei Siwei violated Party discipline and state law, including violations of the Central Committee's Eight-Point Decision on Improving Party and Government Work Style, engaging in corrupt exchanges of power for money and power for sexual favors, and illegally accepting enormous sums of property.1
Lei Siwei exploited his official position to benefit others in areas including resource exploration, mining rights approval, environmental monitoring, and job transfers.1 The investigation revealed that after the 18th National Party Congress, he showed no signs of correcting his misconduct.1 The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection has decided to expel him from the Party and remove him from public office, while terminating his status as a delegate to the Party Congress.1 Additionally, his suspected bribery offenses have been referred to the procuratorate for legal review and prosecution.1
