A new documentary premiered at the Venice Film Festival revealing the systematic methods Israel's military employed in Gaza, according to testimony from 24 military insiders.1 Directed by Oscar-winning Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the film "NAZA"—an acronym for a Hebrew military term euphemistically referring to civilians expected to be killed in operations—was the only documentary selected to compete for the Golden Lion award.1

The directors stated their focus was on "the orders themselves, the policies, the accepted practices, the language and logic that made these practices possible and the people operating within them."1 The film was produced by the team behind the Oscar-winning documentary "The Zone of Interest."1 Since 2023, Israeli operations in Gaza have resulted in over 73,000 Palestinian deaths, the majority civilians, with more than 174,000 wounded, and over three-quarters of residential structures destroyed or damaged.1 The conflict began following the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack in which over 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken by militants into Gaza.1
