Australia's Prime Minister's Literary Award has recognized three major works spanning fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.1 The fiction prize went to "Red Cloth," a collaborative historical novel created by Yolŋu knowledge holders Merrkiyawuy Ganambarr-Stubbs, Djawa Burarrwanga, and Djawundil Maymuru alongside non-Indigenous writer Leonie Norrington.1 The work explores European colonial legacy through a seventeenth-century narrative in which a Yolŋu elder named Batjani protects his granddaughter from Makassan fishermen.1
