Security concerns have extended to critical infrastructure, with Russia held responsible for a drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport.1 RWE Chief Executive Markus Krebber emphasized that "rules designed for peacetime are no longer sufficient to cope with hybrid attacks on infrastructure,"1 amid reports of power line sabotage near coal-fired power plants in North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, and Saxony, leading to the arrest of a 48-year-old suspect.1
Economically, Germany faces rising inflation, with the August rate climbing to 2.9 percent, the highest since late 2023, driven primarily by energy costs surging 10.5 percent year-on-year, gasoline prices up 27.7 percent, and heating oil advancing 49.6 percent.1
