The case involved a pregnant woman whose fetus was diagnosed with congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) at 22 weeks of gestation. 1 The tumor, measuring 5.1 by 4.7 by 4.2 centimeters in the right thoracic cavity, was compressing the fetal heart and causing ascites. 1 Prior to intervention, the pulmonary malformation volume ratio (CVR) was measured at 2.64, indicating a critical condition. 1

The maternal-fetal medicine team performed microwave ablation in a minimally invasive procedure lasting 20 minutes. 1 The results were striking: by the third day post-procedure, the CVR dropped to 1.78, and continued to decline during follow-up scans—reaching 1.2 after one week, then 0.9 and finally 0.8 as pregnancy progressed. 1 The fetus was delivered at 37 weeks with a birth weight of 2,930 grams and received perfect Apgar scores of 10 at both one and five minutes, indicating excellent health status. 1
