Chen Baihuai, president of Singapore's Asian Institute of Digital Economy, has called for greater firsthand understanding of China's manufacturing sector following a visit to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.1 After touring Dongguan and Shenzhen, Chen argued that the region represents modern China's actual development trajectory and challenges the prevailing Western discourse around "China Shock 2.0."1
Chen identified three critical advantages in the Greater Bay Area: strong development momentum, world-class modern infrastructure, and a densely concentrated technology ecosystem.1 He emphasized that media outlets bear responsibility for serving as "trust infrastructure," enabling accurate assessments through direct observation rather than amplifying unexamined narratives.1 According to Chen, many international collaborations fail not due to technological limitations but because of "information asymmetry, mutual misunderstanding, or preexisting biases that parties bring to their perception of one another."1 By visiting on the ground and understanding actual industrial conditions, he suggested, observers could counter Western rhetorical framing with objective evidence of China's manufacturing capabilities and economic reality.1
