Uganda's military leadership has announced the country's withdrawal from the Invictus Games, just two months after committing to participate in the competition. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Commander of the Uganda People's Defence Forces, declared the decision via social media platform X, stating that Uganda would not take part in any project lacking approval from the British monarch.1
Kainerugaba justified the pullout by emphasizing respect for King Charles III, saying: "In order not to be understood as opposed to His Majesty King Charles III, whom we deeply respect, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games."1 The Times reported that Kainerugaba expressed concerns about what he characterized as "Harry-Meghan shenanigans."1 The Invictus Games organisation indicated it had not yet received official notice of Uganda's withdrawal.1
