Nagoya Mayor Hirokazu Hirosawa confirmed on Wednesday that the Asian Games facilities and participating athletes remain safe despite severe flooding affecting the central Japanese city, with competitions set to proceed as scheduled from September 19 to October 4.1 He stated: "We are not worried about the conditions of the venues and we believe there is no problem holding the Asian Games as planned."1

The Games will draw more than 11,000 athletes from 45 Asian nations and territories,1 a participation level that exceeds the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, which featured approximately 10,700 athletes.1 While the flooding prompted the temporary evacuation of around 400 athletes and staff members from converted shipping container accommodations to higher ground,1 and approximately 3,500 people sought shelter at emergency evacuation centers,1 the disruption has not affected the overall viability of hosting the event as planned.
