A research initiative based on brain tissue examination has revealed a significant prevalence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) among rugby league players in Australia.1 The Australian Sports Brain Bank examined donated brain tissue from 51 rugby league athletes and identified CTE in 31 of them, representing a substantial proportion of the sample studied.1 The affected players ranged in age from their twenties through their forties and represented various levels of competition, from amateur to professional.1
