The China Meteorological Administration has issued forecasts warning of significant cooling and precipitation across central and southwestern China due to cold air masses.1 Heavy rainfall has already impacted several regions, with Chengdu and Deyang in Sichuan, as well as Haibezhou in Qinghai, experiencing downpours reaching 100 to 138.3 millimeters.1 Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, and Henan have also seen strong winds and temperature declines.1
Over the next three days, the cold air system will continue to affect the region, bringing heavy to torrential rainfall to Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, and Sichuan provinces, with localized extreme precipitation potentially reaching 100 to 150 millimeters.1 Hourly rainfall rates are expected to peak at 20 to 50 millimeters, with some areas potentially exceeding 60 millimeters.1
Temperature drops will vary by location, with parts of Inner Mongolia's southeast and northern Hebei experiencing declines of 4 to 8 degrees Celsius, and isolated areas seeing drops of 10 to 11 degrees Celsius.1 The northwestern regions southeast of the northwest, the Huai River valley, Jianghan, and the Sichuan Basin are forecast to see temperature reductions of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, with some localities dropping 8 to 10 degrees Celsius or more.1
The China Meteorological Administration issued a blue alert for torrential rain as of 6 a.m. on September 9.1
