A British businessman has been subjected to multiple cycles of abduction, torture, and imprisonment over a nine-year period at the hands of Saudi Arabian authorities.1 Rami Nayeem, a British-Saudi businessman, was first kidnapped in Dubai in 2017 and subsequently transferred to Saudi Arabia, where he endured three months of interrogation involving electric shock, waterboarding, and psychological abuse.1 He was coerced into signing an agreement to surrender 5 billion Saudi riyals, which was later reduced to 1 billion riyals (approximately £200 million).1
In 2022, Nayeem disappeared again and was held for nearly two years in Hail Prison, a facility known for severe human rights violations.1 Following his release in March 2025, he faced new charges alleging he had exploited his father's influence and acted as a proxy for an American company.1 Despite remaining uncharged for seven years, Nayeem was convicted in a secret trial and sentenced to six years in prison.1 He is currently under electronic monitoring and prohibited from leaving Saudi Arabia.1
His wife, Mira Lozi, has now come forward publicly in London to share their family's experience, marking the first time the case has been openly discussed.1 She stated: "For nine years, my children and I have lived a nightmare," and revealed that the family had been pressured to remain silent in hopes of securing his release.1 The ordeal reflects what the family describes as nine years of diplomatic failure.1
