A mudslide disaster struck the Nepal-Tibet border region on August 26, 2024, leaving a young police officer missing at the Gyirong Port of Entry in Tibet.1 Wen Yan, a female officer born in the 1990s, has remained unaccounted for since the disaster.1
Wen Yan was stationed at the Gyirong Border Inspection Station, where she had been assigned in December 2013.1 She participated in rescue operations following the April 2015 Nepal earthquake and was formally commissioned as a civil police officer in 2017.1 According to Beijing Daily's official account "Chang'an Street Know-It," multiple staff members from the Gyirong Port inspection station have been reported missing following the mudslide, with the report published on August 29.1
Wen Yan's parents traveled to the disaster site to search for their daughter, an only child.1 Unable to bring her home, her father posted messages online expressing his sorrow. In one message, he wrote: "Although we were unable to bring you home today, we are deeply regretful."1 Before departing the site, the parents took a jar of soil back with them.1
