A close friend and witness testifying in the case against prominent Australian broadcaster Alan Jones has admitted to sending supportive text messages to him during court proceedings at Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney.1 The witness told Jones he was "the greatest broadcaster ever" and stated he would "of course" refute any lies about him if needed.1
During cross-examination, the witness denied observing inappropriate conduct by Jones during a 2008 lunch at a Mosman restaurant involving a man identified in court as "Applicant C," who alleges Jones placed his left hand under the table throughout the meal.1 However, prosecutor Georgina Wright contended the witness's testimony was biased toward Jones.1 Other witnesses have reportedly described the witness as smirking and joking about Jones's alleged harassment of Applicant C.1 The witness also labeled journalist Kate McClymont from the Sydney Morning Herald as "evil" and used disparaging language to describe her.1
Jones faces 20 indecent assault charges and two sexual harassment charges involving six male complainants.1 The trial is being heard before Judge Glenn Walsh.1
