The situation has drawn political attention. Independent senator Lidia Thorpe called on the federal government to purchase the 15 homes for $600,000 to prevent the displacement.1 However, a spokesperson for the federal Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Malarndirrl McCarthy, indicated that "the Commonwealth has been unable to find a solution to prevent the auction from proceeding."1 In August 2025, ATSICWS was fined $15,000 for 12 violations of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2006.1
