Rene Haas, chief executive of Arm Holdings, has predicted that artificial intelligence will discover cancer treatments within the lifetime of current humans, but warned that ongoing chip shortages are impeding progress in AI and data center development.1 In an interview with BBC, Haas stated: "AI is going to... find a cure for cancer that today you and I, other humans [could] not in our lifetimes. I believe in our lifetime, AI will help cure cancer."1
The semiconductor supply constraints represent a significant bottleneck for deploying advanced AI systems and expanding data center infrastructure.1 Arm's AGI chip line, introduced in March of this year, has generated demand exceeding $2 billion, and Arm currently commands approximately 50% of the global data center AI chip market share.1 Beyond near-term medical applications, Haas also anticipates that humanoid robots powered by artificial intelligence will see widespread adoption across manufacturing, cleaning, and security sectors within the coming decade.1 However, he expressed skepticism regarding proposals to establish semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom.1
